The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog

Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog

The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is a bulldog type breed that was developed in the southern part of the United States as a catch dog. Catch dogs were used to stop unruly livestock and other animals from running rampant on the farm when the owner didn't want them to. Nowadays, though, the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is mostly kept as a family pet.

While the first documented evidence of the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog appeared as recently as 1979, it is likely that they have been living and working in the United States for approximately 150 to 250 years. They are one of many breeds descended from the English Bulldogs who came over with English settlers hundreds of years ago. Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs are named for the Alapaha river in Georgia.

Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs are intelligent, outgoing, and self-assured dogs. They have a tendency to be territorial and make excellent watch dogs. They are extremely friendly and loving with their families and make excellent companions for the children within the family. Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs thrive when given a job to do. Their size and energy needs do not make them a good choice for apartment dwellers, and Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs are much happier in a suburban or rural setting. They need a great deal of physical activity in order to make good pets, and if left alone and not sufficiently exercised can become destructive ( and these large and strong dogs can do a lot of damage to a couch if they are bored).

Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs are not a great choice for inexperienced dog owners. They are suspicious of strangers and can be territorial and aggressive if not socialized property. Even the most well socialized Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog will likely still display territorial and protective behaviors, so they are not a breed for someone who has a lot of strangers constantly coming in and out of the house. Early socialization is very important for this breed in particular because they need to learn to differentiate between everyday annoyances and actual threats, otherwise they're liable to become overly possessive and protective of their family and their home. The Alapaha is also not particularly friendly with other dogs, so they tend to do best with a family who either does not have other dogs, or raised their Alapaha around other dogs from puppyhood.

Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs are very smart and highly trainable if the person guiding and training them has the experience to know how to do it correctly.

While originally a Southern dog and an emblem of the old South, Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs are now found all around the world. In the right home, Bloods make excellent and devoted family dogs.

Fun Fact:Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs are named after a river in Georgia… at least the Alapaha part of their name! Rumor has it that the "blue blood" portion of their name is due to the fact that these dogs have an almost "noble" quality about them.

    Change of registrar update:

MTA is registered with and will only be promoting the International Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog Registry- IABBR. We look forward to being a part of an active USA chapter in the near future.

We want to focus on working with a registry that has the same goals as us with the purebred CRK strain Alapaha.

MTA is dedicated to the preservation of the purebred Alapaha and believe that using the IABBR for registration will assure that our Alapahas stay pure- as we will only be breeding with other IABBR registered dogs.

If you have a dog or pup pup from us, you will be receiving the appropriate paperwork to register with the IABBR if you chose to. We highly recommend registering your MTA dog even if you don't plan on breeding, as we feel it makes them much more valuable and proves they are pure alapahas.

We will be working with the IABBR to host an Alapaha show in Tennessee this fall also- so stay tuned for more information on that.

Here is the link to check out the registry if you are not familiar with them.
